Interactions in deep-sea ecosystems

Our researches include different processes/networks such as trophic interactions (matter and energy fluxes supporting food webs), syntrophy, symbioses, organic matter recycling, migration & colonization (underlying connectivity). Fluxes of information, mediated through molecular or behavioral signals that may initiate or regulate interactions, are also considered.

The objectives of our theme can be summarized in 3 main challenges addressing:

  1. fluxes of matter and energy between deep-sea compartments (including pelagic or mesopelagic compartments);
  2. the role of interactions in dispersal and colonization processes;
  3. the identification of communication pathways triggering and modulating interactions.
