Innovations in ocean technologies allowed the development of a new generation of ocean observing systems. The EMSO-Açores (EMSO-ERIC), the Endeavour node of Ocean Networks Canada, and the cabled Axial seamount array of Ocean Observatories Initiative, located on the Mid-Atlantic and the Juan de Fuca ridges respectively, are the first deep-sea platforms with a link to land to be deployed on hydrothermal vents.
The next big challenge is to integrate these data to reach a comprehensive understanding of hydrothermal ecosystems dynamics and functioning.In this context, the iMOVE working group (https://www.interridge.org/WG_IMOVE), created in 2017, focuses on the integrated study of vents using multidisciplinary observatories. The WG was officially supported and funded by InterRidge.
The main objective of the WG is to contribute to the InterRidge community by fostering and coordinating the integration of hydrothermal data from vent fields where observatory-style data have been acquired. We propose to develop a collaborative platform to access the existing data and metadata in standardized formats, provide relevant analytical and modeling tools, and facilitate data integration across disciplines and observatories.
This international workshop will bring together researchers from various disciplines in order to share results and engage future collaborations. The workshop will be limited to 50 people.
